Όταν ο John Lennon και η Yōko Ono πραγματοποιησαν το 1969 το πρώτο τους Bed-In for Peace στο 'Αμστερνταμ

Αμέσως μετά το γάμο τους στο Γιβραλτάρ (20 Μαρτίου 1969), ο John Lennon και η Yōko Ono εκμεταλλεύτηκαν το ενδιαφέρον των μέσων ενήμερωσης για το "μήνα του μελιτός" τους για να το στρέψουν σε μία πράξη διαμαρτυρίας ενάντια στον πόλεμο του Βιετνάμ. Στα δύο Bed-In for Peace που πραγματοποίησαν στο 'Αμστερνταμ και το Μόντρεαλ,, δέχονταν κάθε μέρα στη "νυφική" τους σουίτα από τις 9 το πρωί ως τις 21 το βράδυ φίλους και δημοσιογράφους. 

Πρώτη μέρα του πρώτου από τα δύο Bed-in's στο Χίλτον του 'Αμστερνταμ (25 με 31 Μαρτίου 1969).  

  

Το δεύτερο Bed-in στο Montreal (26 Μαίου με 2 Ιουνίου 1969). Κοντά στον John Lennon και τη Yōko Ono, βρέθηκε κατά τύχη στη "νυφική σουίτα" η δεκαεξάχρονη τότε Gail Renard. Ο John Lennon πίστεψε στο δημοσιογραφικό της ταλέντο (η Gail Renard έγινε αργότερα σεναριογράφος σε σειρές του BBC) και της παραχώρησε μία συνέντευξη για το περιοδικό των Beatles. Την έστελνε κάθε βράδυ με συνοδεία σπίτι της, υποσχόμενος στη μητέρα της πως θα την κρατούσε μακριά από ναρκωτικά και σεξ. Στο τέλος της χάρισε ως αναμνηστικό το χειρόγραφο των στίχων του τραγουδιού Give Peace a Chance. Η Gail Renard εξιστόρισε την εμπειρία της στο βιβλίο της John Lennon: Give Me A Chance. Το χειρόγραφο πωλήθηκε το 2008 από τους Christie's έναντι περίπου 650.000

Τον Αύγουστο του 2011, η Yoko Ono ανέβασε στο YouTube ολόκληρο το ντοκιμαντέρ που είχε γυριστεί το 1969 για την ειρηνιστική πρωτοβουλία των Bed-In's.   Dear Friends, In 1969, John and I were so naïve to think that doing the Bed-In would help change the world. Well, it might have. But at the time, we didn't know. It was good that we filmed it, though. The film is powerful now. What we said then could have been said now. In fact, there are things that we said then in the film, which may give some encouragement and inspiration to the activists of today. Good luck to us all. Let's remember WAR IS OVER if we want it.  1969 was the year that John & Yoko intensified their long running campaign for World Peace. They approached the task with the same entrepreneurial expertise as an advertising agency selling a brand of soap powder to the masses. John & Yoko's product however was PEACE, not soft soap, and they were determined to use any slogan, event and gimmick in order to persuade the World to buy it. BED PEACE (directed by Yoko & John and filmed by Nic Knowland) is a document of the Montreal events and features John & Yoko in conversation with, amongst others, The World Press, satirist Al Capp, activist Dick Gregory, comedian Tommy Smothers, protesters at Berkeley's People's Park, Rabbi Abraham L.
